Chalet in Calvià for rent
320 Sqft - Pariatge, Calvià, Mallorca 07184
The municipality of Calvià is located in the west of the island of Mallorca, in the “Pariatge” region. It borders in the north on Estellencs and Puigpunyent, in the east on Palma, in the west on Andratx, and in the south on the Mediterranean Sea. The municipality has a 54 km long coastal strip and an extensive forest area in the interior. The sun shines here 300 days a year.
The area around Calvià is protected from the north winds by the Tramuntana mountains and by numerous forests that can be hiked all year round. Various native plant species, such as the Aleppo pine, grow on the rocky coasts. On the cliffs of Banc d’Eivissa and Illot del Toro off the coast, there is a special type of lizard that is only found in the Balearic Islands.
The affluent town of Calvià, west of Palma, is the center of the region of the same name, which is heavily developed for tourism. However, the place itself is hardly influenced by tourism. It’s rather quiet here and the immediate area is ideal for hiking. The small town is quickly explored on a stroll through town. The town has a spacious sports facility, an indoor swimming pool, and a rather eye-catching library.
The fact that the towering church, Sant Joan Baptista, already existed in the 13th century cannot be seen at first glance. Rebuildings and renovations in 1604 and at the end of the 19th century resulted in a building that combines elements of Art Nouveau with much older architectural styles. Characteristic of the originally neo-Gothic building is its strikingly large church window and its two narrow bell towers. The very beautiful Romanesque portal is richly decorated with reliefs depicting the baptism of Christ.
The town hall is located in the same place as the church, on the outer wall of which you can see an interesting colorful illustration of Mallorcan history. After visiting the two sights, a visit to one of the nearby cafes is a good idea.
